This is a role for someone who takes initiative, handles competing priorities well, and wants to genuinely shape how legal works at a company that matters.

Job description

You are the kind of lawyer who builds things, not just advises on them.

As our second Legal Counsel, you join a small but growing legal team at a pivotal moment. Eddy Grid is expanding fast with new services, new partnerships, and a regulatory environment that is shifting constantly. Your focus will be across contracts, compliance & corporate legal support.

You will work directly with our Head of Legal & Compliance, with real autonomy to get things done. This is a role for someone who takes initiative, handles competing priorities well, and wants to genuinely shape how legal works at a company that matters.

What will you do?

  • Draft, negotiate, and manage the full range of commercial contracts, including client agreements, partnerships, NDAs, vendor and grid operator contracts.

  • Implement structured legal documentation with standardised templates & clear processes.

  • Partner with sales on negotiations, moving deals forward quickly while protecting the business.

  • Monitor energy legislation and regulation, including REMIT, NIS2, the Energiewet s, and evolving EU frameworks, translating changes into clear guidance before they become issues.

  • Proactively flag regulatory developments to the right stakeholders and advise on the implications.

  • Navigate legal and regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions, with a focus on the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.

  • Build and maintain a practical compliance framework that keeps pace with our growth.

  • Manage corporate administration across multiple entities and support for new entity formation.

  • Support entity management, handle claims and dispute resolution, and manage external counsel where needed.

  • Advise management and C-level on legal matters with clear, actionable recommendations.

Job requirements

Who are you?

  • You hold a law degree and have at least 2 years of post-qualification experience in-house, private practice, or both.

  • You have a solid track record across commercial contracts and regulatory compliance.

  • You are self-sufficient, proactive, and comfortable building structure where little exists yet.

  • You manage competing priorities well. Urgent negotiations and long-term frameworks both get your attention.

  • You are fluent in Dutch and English. German language skills are a plus.

  • You think commercially and you calibrate risk against business reality, not just legal principle.

  • You are genuinely curious about the energy sector and follow developments closely.

  • You have an active interest in legal tech and AI tooling, you look for smarter ways to work.

  • Familiarity with energy market structures such as PPAs, BRP agreements, or grid-related contracts is a plus.

  • Experience in a scaling business or startup is a strong advantage.

What do we Offer?

  1. Real ownership, you are building the legal function of a fast-growing energy tech company, not maintaining someone else's.

  2. A front-row seat to the energy transition: optimising batteries, solar, and wind to make space for more renewables across Europe.

  3. A small, close-knit legal team where your input shapes how the function grows.

  4. A collaborative culture that moves fast and trusts its people.

  5. Hybrid working from our Utrecht office.
